Mute button
Section titled “Mute button”Cuts the microphones in hardware; the red light shows it. On the Echo Shows it cuts the camera too. Mute sound in Home Assistant plays when it changes, and holding the button plays the Mute hold sound.
Home Assistant can mute with the Microphone mute switch (mic_mute). On some Echos only the
button can unmute, by design.
On the Echo Dot, Ring while muted can show an effect on the ring, and Mute LED brightness sets the red light to Dim or Bright.
Camera shutter
Section titled “Camera shutter”On the Echo Shows. Stops the camera: no stream, no snapshots.
Indicators
Section titled “Indicators”On the Echo Shows, while either is off, a red mark shows in a top corner: microphone on the left, camera on the right. Turn them off with Settings → Display → Privacy indicators.
Home Assistant gets the Microphone mute switch and, on the Echo Shows, the Camera covered sensor.
